The volunteer tutor program trains and places tutors with adults who need help with basic literacy, English language learning, and/or math.
The Learners Might Be…
- Working to improve weak or minimal reading, writing, or math skills
- Trying to get a driver’s license
- Working toward a GED
- Learning English to become successful in their new home country
- Learning parenting skills along with English
- Learning basic literacy skills to train in new field of employment
- Acquiring additional skills to transition to college credit classes
Volunteer Tutor Opportunities
- In a Basic Skills, English Language Learning, or Family Literacy classroom
- One-on-one or small groups with students in the classroom
- At home or at community sites such as libraries with students who are not able to go to class due to physical limitations, scheduling conflicts, or readiness issues.
Become a Volunteer Tutor
If you are a minimum of 18 years of age, have a GED or high school diploma and a desire to help others, you have the basic ingredients to become a good tutor. We provide the training for free. Just complete an application, meet with the Volunteer Coordinator, and attend training.
